You can't learn to do proper leverage, technique, set-ups without being thrown and how to roll on the ground against a partner whose doing their damndedst to do the same to you. The only thing I dislike about certain elements within BJJ is the pit boys; thugs who use their skills and attack in packs over machoism. BJJ actually had a VERY bad reputation because of fights like this at clubs; judo was seen as classier and held in higher regard. I do respect how BJJ constantly pressure-tested itself in challenge matches and Vale Tudo, but on the other hand, that kind of dojo-storming gives martial arts a really bad rep. I hate McDojos and black belt factories with a passion, but that kind of behavior doesn't fly outside of Brazil. Even the Gracie brothers were guilty of this when they ambushed and ganged up on Rufino Dos Santos. Or ghow Gracie propaganda videos try to always market "GRACIE JIU-JITSU OWNING JUDO, WRESTLING, SAMBO!" when most of those instances are invites to compete or train together.

Went for my first wrestling class and was paired with a female. When practicing drills (for example, pushing/ pulling each other, escaping from positions, turning her over on the floor) how hard should I go? I feel like if I go 100% she won't be able to escape from anything and won't take me down. I let her "work" a few times by relaxing a bit and letting her get a headlock in etcIs this good etiquette and I should do the same for guys? Or am I cheating them out of learning properly?

If they are drilling something and doing it poorly, don't just let them get it, but don't resist with your full weight/strength. Getting someone to step with a collar tie is no big deal, but landing on someone with a double could end in a rib injury for the smaller person.>Is this good etiquette and I should do the same for guys?There's a right way to go about it. When I train with smaller/weaker people, I just try to focus on being technical and less on weight/strength. This applies to defense too — I will try to counter something if I catch a mistake, but I'm not going to use my full strength. This makes it productive for both training partners. The point of any of this is to avoid injuring someone smaller than you, so just be mindful.

Is it possible to just never get good at a sport?I always wanted to drift. I used to rip the e brake in snow and dirt but I just suck at it. I bought a simulator setup and been using it for years and I never get better. I can barely drift around one wet corner.
